It was a great privilege to be invited to co-star with the legendary Sir Geof Hurst, Martin Peters OBE, Frank Bruno and the wonderful Mr Bill Pertwee (plus too many other great talents to mention) in the video shoot of Ben Gray's fantastic SUN (unofficial) England World Cup anthem.

Sven was in the dog house again for loosing his very first World Cup qualifying game (against Northern Ireland) and GMTV decided to have a light hearted look at possible alternative occupations the great man could follow.After filming Sven's new jobs at a variety of loctions all over London, I had a "starring role" on the live show the next day, oppening as the weather man and popping up every 10 minutes or so as sports commentator, camera man, tea boy and many other amusing situations. The rumour was that “Sven” would announce a new member of the England squad after the match. It turned out that instead of a new striker, the secret weapon that would bring some extra vigour to the team would be those tasty, low fat, high energy Jaffa Cakes. Derek as Sven and Andy Harmer as David Beckham were selected by Catalyst Marketing for a McVitie’s promotion video of an after match interview with “Sven” announcing the new team member followed by Andy once again displaying some amazing football tricks for the camera. True North Productions needed a top (football linked) celebrity double with well proven acting ability to form a pivotal role in a top secret MacIntyre's Big Sting programme shoot. Derek was an obvious choice for the part and was very pleased to contribute to the success of this exciting clandestine operation.
It was a chalenge and a great privilege for Derek to work as a very junior partner in a "double act" with the fearless Donal MacIntyre and his dedicated and professional production crew for a day.
The resulting shoot went extremely well with results that will make for another "must see" programme when broadcast. More... |

It's a pretty hectic schedule for Svenalike but several highlights from recent World Cup linked events are worthy of a new gallery. The Music Industry Celebrity Soccer six tournament in Birmingham where "Sven" presided over events for 9 hours on live TV courtessy og Sky One and the re-creation of "the lions of '66" triumphant dinner at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington joining Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Gordon Banks to fascinate and entertain the guests in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
