A new team for "Sven"?

Of the many on stage comedy performances, a Christmas show was at a Butlins holiday camp was a particular hit and another opportunity for "Svenalike" to meet up with some old and new friends in the business!

A "Sven" comedy solo spot and awards presentation and later a comedy double act starring "Sven & Becks" was well recieved by the amazed and amused audience. (Who like all others, thankfully have forgiven "us" for not winning the 2006 World Cup!)

You will no doubt think you recognise the co-stars but the cast is actually left to right: Leigh Chatton as "James Bond", Paul Mansley as "David Beckham", Niall Baxter as "Dr Who" and the wonderfully talented Dean Taylor doing one of his many impersonations as "Borrat".

(With thanks to Butlins at Bognor Regis)

The ITV/Granada Lookey Likey series.

Granada / ITV had a concept for a light entertainement series that would depend on finding top professional lookalike/soundalike celebrities who could not only act but would pass for the real thing in close proximity with members of the public and after an exhaustive search among the look-a-bit-alikes some of the very few true celebrity double acts were discovered and auditioned and selected for the project.

The results were far better than the ITV executuives had hoped for and the series was "upgraded" to comedy and was selected as "pick of the day" and "comedy choice" in many TV guides when broadcast in the winter of 2006.

Derek (Svenalike) recieved the accolade as "the UK's No.1 most convincing lookalike/soundalike actor" from the show's producer (Sean Miller) after a particularly intensive and hilarious days shoot for one of the episodes featuring "Sven-Goran Eriksson".

Front Magazine Fashion Spread.

This photo shoot was considered to be so successful that it was selected for the centre spread and extended to 10 pages with both posed and candid shots like the ones seen on this page.

The staff and members of the exclusive sports club used for the location were intrigued and totally convinced that Sven and his top players had arrived and several photographic sessions had to be interupted to allow for more public photo opportunities and autograph signings.

It has been suggested that these pictures may represent some real events with one of the world's most successful managers discussing his many new employment possibilities after his resignation from managing the England team comes into effect after the conclusion of the World Cup?

World Cup 1966 - 2006 Commemorative dinner.

It was a real honour to be invited to do my stand up act at the commemorative dinner for the 1966 world cup winning England team and a great pleasure to meet and work with Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters again while appreciating the opportunity to meet the gallant Gordon Banks for the first time.

Considerable funds were raised for the Booby Moore fund for Cancer Research Uk and the "3 Lion's" anecdotes and broadcast highlights from the '66 final kept all the guests enthralled until the early hours of the next morning.

Tone Def Allstars Video

Svenalike co-starred in the hilarious video of "who do you think you are kidding Jurgen Klinsman?" with Sir Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Frank Bruno, Bill Pertwee, Mike Osman, Dave Davies, Ben Gray and a fantastic supporting cast of dancers, glamour models and dedicated England football fans for a fantatic video that made single numbers ion the music charts during the World Cup.

Music industry Soccer Six World Cup.

What would a World Cup be without "Sven" to manage the England ladies team and preside over the proceedings and with the lovely Caprice as my Captain it was bound to be a great week-end.

It was a marathon of over 8 hours live TV (broadcast by Sky One) and it was a great privilege and honour to be called upon to present the two World Cups after being involved in entertaining the celebrities, Birmingham Stadium crowd and the millions of TV viewers.

Top of The Pops Reloaded

During my four week run on Top of the Pops reloaded it was a real joy to work with such a great bunch of talented pops stars and happy presenters and crew!

My pre-recorded comedy sketches and in studio live work was teriffic fun for all concerned and I only wish that I had been a little more helpfull as part of Craig David's quiz team. It's a real loss to the nation that this great show is now shelved but at least I has a part in it's last four broadcast episodes as a permanent reminder.

MacIntyre's Big Sting

It was a privilege and a rare pleasure to form a (very junior!) partnership in a double act with the fearless and amazing Donal MacIntyre. The outcome of our 9 hours of filming will be broadcast in what could be a "must see" episode on prime time TV in 2006

Many thanks to Donal and all the exceptionally friendly but highly professional crew from TrueNorth productions!

TheFA Official Hospitality

I had an exceptionally good time entertaining the fans in the hospitality dining rooms and VIP boxes at Trafford park prior to kick off in the last England qualifying match against Poland.

In addition to convincing many fans and Polish VIPs that they where meeting "the great man", as you can see from my pass: The security staff also thought that there was no need to check or remove the stub from "Sven's" pass as he obviously could freely around all areas of the stadium without any restriction!

Two Sven's under one roof..., but which is which??

GMTV further live appearance

On the day of the final England qualifying match against Poland, news broke that a charming solicitor named Jeffrey Gordon was receiving some unwanted attention because he "looks like Sven". It was obvious that GMTV would not be able to get Sven-G E in to test the likeness so, of course, they called in his most popular and authentic double to put Jeffrey to the test. Derek was already booked to appear for The FA at Trafford Park in the famous Man U stadium that night as part of the VIP hospitality and entertainment prior to the match but was happy to oblige with a further early live appearance with his favourite morning TV team. I very much enjoy my new found status as apparently GMTV's "unofficial" Sven impressionist!

Many thanks once again to all at GMTV.

Orange Dealer network VIP Reception

After the business of the day was over, the UK's top Orange dealers and their guests were entertained with an evening of fun and glamour.
Derek (as Sven) was MC and entertainer in the afternoon, during a football competition and subsequently presented the trophies and Champage to the victorious team. Later in the evening, the guests were welcomed to their dinner with a red carpet reception by "Sven", "Catherine Zeta Jones" ( Lesley Jayne Wright) and "Halle Berry" (Kelly Smith) with photo opportunities provided by the "OK magazine" press team.
The lookalike celebrities then mixed with and entertained the guests during a "fun and games" reception that lasted into the
early hours of the following morning.
Many thanks to the Celtic Manor Resort, Orange Mobile and all involved in making the event so memorable.

McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Promotion video

The rumour was that "Sven" would announce a new member of the England squad after the match!
It turned out that instead of a new striker or defender, the secret weapon that would bring additional vigour to the team would be those tasty, low fat, high energy Jaffa Cakes.
The resulting video of Derek's famous after match interview was followed by Andy Harmer once again displaying some amazing football tricks for the camera... while eating endless samples of the product!

Wales Mail on Sunday newspaper

When the Wales on Sunday newspaper heard that "Sven & Becks" were reconnoitering the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff prior to a forthcoming World Cup qualifying game, they sent a press team to investigate.
Pictures of Derek and Andy Harmer were taken during a break in filming for BBC Wales and published with a news story the following Sunday.

With thanks to the Trinity Mirror group and Liz Pearce from Wales on Sunday.

OK magazine celebrity party

When OK magazine throw a party they invite only the biggest celebrities and this one was a hoot!
The gathering of lookalikes got together to enjoy themselves under the watchful eye and camera lens of Alan Olley and the results were published in the August 16th edition of "the magazine that is always top for celebrity news".
As you can see, "Sven" was getting friendly with "Kylie" while "Nancy"
was posing for the camera.
Many thanks to Alan and OK for a great day and the use of this image.

Closer Magazine Photo story

Closer magazine chose Derek and a lovely Faria lookalike model to recreate the notorious story of Sven & Faria's week-end in his Swedish lovenest.
The photo shoot was considered so successful that it was expanded to fill two pages and many readers wondered how the magazine had managed to get a camera man so intimately involved in the reported events!
The illustration is a copy of the first page of a two page spread.

With thanks to Closer magazine for image use

UK RadioAid Tsunami appeal

Always keen to support any good causes, Derek joined a host of other top lookalikes giving their time freely to assist Emap publications in their effort to raise funds for the UK RadioAid Tsunami appeal by providing photo opportunities to any member of the public willing to make a donation.
You can see Tim Oliver (aka "David Brent" from The Office) with Derek and the hard working
members of Emap's collection team.
Well over £20.000 was raised by Emap's lookalikes

Photo Story in The SUN

At the hight of the FA/Faria Alam "scandal", many newspapers and magazines wanted a very authentic "Sven" and The SUN decided that Derek was the best available for their "Dear Deirdre" column as you can see from the resulting copy of the one page spread.

GMTV Live

I
opened the show as the weatherman at 6.01 am, popped up every ten minutes or so as camera man, sports commentator, tea boy and in many other situations. The pre-shot film of "Sven" working as a waiter, selling fruit, working in a sports shop, driving a road roller and fooling the media outside the FA offices etc ran at regular intervals throughout the programme.
I finally closed the show as a prospective alternative bride groom for their lovely
presenter Kate.
It's never too late to change your mind Kate...
Many thanks once again to all at GMTV!

GMTV Press stunt

During a day's filming many lighthearted future employment options that Sven may be interested (in in the unlikely event that he quits his current job) I was smuggled in to Soho Square and the gathered TV and press crews went wild for an interview and paparazzi photos.
I am very greatful to all the members of the public who wished me ("Sven") and the team well during the day, even after the
disapointing result in Northern Ireland the day before.
.
Doncaster Rover's Management and
The League Cup

I
had a fantastic day shooting promotional shots for Doncaster Rovers linked to the Regional Doncaster Telecom Company. The Directors and Management honoured my by insisting on a photo opportunity with "Sven" together with their hard won and well earned League Cup.
It was a great pleasure to work with such a dedicated team and my surprise visit to the
training camp when the main shots were in the can was terrific fun.
It's OK lads, you can relax now, it was me and not really Sven...

Filming at the Millennium Stadium

It may have been a tough talk about tactics and the game plan, or after match recriminations! You will have to watch the final edited version from BBC Sport to find out.
The director and camera crew thought it was a hoot and acclaimed the ad-lib performance to their script outline as "Brilliant", "Amazing" and "Fantastic!"
...We always aim to please...!

OK Magazine story

Together with a host of other lookalikes, I had a great day recreating the wedding of "Posh and Becks" for OK Magazine.
The feature was a success and I didn't get into trouble with "Nancy" when the Pop Divas appeared to take more than a passing interest in
"Sven"...

With thanks to photographer Alan Olley and OK magazine.

Corporate Video for Jaffa Cakes

United Biscuits insisted on the best Sven Goran Eriksson and David Beckham lookalikes - soundalikes for their McVities Jaffa Cakes promotion film and naturally y booked Derek and Andy Harmer. The resulting acting included Derek's authentic and entertaining impression of a Sven after match interview together with Andy's fantastic football juggling skills. Office staff at the film location were initially convinced that they were being visited by the real Sven & Becks and formed a queue for an additional photo opportunity after the shoot was in the can!

"Sven & Becks" at the Millennium Stadium
Here is a photo of me at the Cardiff Millenium Stadium. It was a great fun day for Andy and me, with the BBC Wales film crew. Our comedy and straight impressions of Sven and Becks for the trailers and clips were hailed as "Brilliant" and "fantastic!" by the director and crew and are due to be broadcast in connection with forthcoming international matches.

Brylcreem Cheerleader promotion
I had a great time with the glamourous Lauren Pope while participating in the PR launch of the Brylcreem unofficial cheerleaders for a forthcomming international football tournament. While Lauren obviously created a lot of attention, the public were also very keen to wish me /"Sven" good luck in the forthcomming international freindly matches and World Cup qualifying games being totally convinced that I was the real thing.
