I hope that you will find time to browse around this site for further information in my "about me" page and you may also like to see what I have been up to recently as the world famous ex-England Football Club head coach and manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and after his appointment as the new manager at Manchester City FC in my past "appearances" section and photo "gallery".

Autumn/Winter 2007:

It's been a pretty busy time once again, with a steady stream on personal appearances and quite a few outings for "The X-Managers" (my comedy double act with my partner and good friend "Ricky Gervais" played by top celebrity impersonator Tim Oliver.)
There have been a few more TV appearances including the great little solo Hitchcock style thriller recreating the famous movie "Virtigo" for the Setanta TV channel and I have now also finished filming a fairly lengthy part in the new feature film "Goal III" due for general cinema release next summer. With the sad events that knocked England out of Euro 2008, I hope that a few footie fans will at least enjoy the movie?

I have hosted and/or entertained at several more charity events, but I would once again urge any one who has a heart to visit: http://www.disabilities-trust.org.uk/ as this is a very worthy cause run by some wonderful people and deserves your support.

July 2007:

"Sven" causes chaos at Manchester City FC's Eastlands Stadium.

(See Gallery for images)

A slim, dapper figure with an unmistakable high forehead, swept back silver hair and wearing a Man City tie was seen touring the City Shop and walking around the stadium at City's Eastlands complex recently. It was a great surprise to the fans, stadium personnel and security staff who responded by mobbing the iconic (and usually far more illusive!) ex-England FC manager. After much confusion and some alarm on the part of security staff caught totally off guard, it was revealed that this was not actually Sven-Goran Eriksson but his double who was trying to do a little shopping for wardrobe and props for his S-G E impersonator act.

Derek Williams has been acclaimed as "the UK's No.1 lookalike-soundalike celebrity double" with his "amazing and uncanny" resemblance to Sven-Goran Eriksson and he is a common sight around Hertfordshire and especially his home town of Welwyn Garden City although he is constantly finding the need to explain that he is not the real Mr Eriksson while travelling further a field performing his stand up comedy routine, after dinner speaking, corporate event appearances and the odd newspaper, magazine, TV, radio or video spot.

Fans may have followed some of "Svenalike's" adventures reported on this web site and within the printed media in the past few years, including over 40 broadcast hours of live and pre recorded TV, features in prestige magazines and national newspapers. Some of his many contributions to charity fund raising activities have raised a total of over £80,000 for BBC Children in need, The NSPCC, Bobby Moore Cancer trust and The Disabilities Trust among many others. During 2006 he was also awarded a prestigious Dollond and Aitchison sponsorship which is usually only the reserve of "real" celebrities. Most people will also have seen "Svenalike" on TV at some time but may not have realised he was anything other than "the real thing"?

Many people may have wondered how the real Sven's move to Manchester City FC had effected the Sven double and endless National and Regional radio stations and newspapers from all over the world caught up with Derek lately to find out how his fortunes have been effected by recent events. Dropping in and out of his spookily accurate copy of the enigmatic Swedes voice (that many will have heard when Radio Four, BBC Radio Manchester and many other local radio stations who tracked him down), Derek reports that he did have some dark thoughts about "growing a beard or getting a wig" while driving out of London after an assignment filming live for Sky TV's coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2006 quarter final match that saw his (and England's!) hopes so cruelly dashed, but his agents continued to receive bookings and the public remained kind, appreciative and supportive when they encountered what they thought was Sven so, while the hectic schedule of appearing sometimes two or three times a day, seven days a week all over the British Isles abruptly stopped when the last penalty was kicked, the bookings continued to arrive and appreciative audiences continued to enjoy his unique take on his alter ego and the demand for what Derek admits is his "somewhat bizarre act" continued throughout the Autumn of 2006 (during which a 6 part hidden camera comedy series in which he featured extensively was hailed as "comedy pick of the day" when broadcast on ITV2) and on into 2007 with on stage performances at a Butlins Holiday camp, further TV appearances and a slowly increasing demand for his constantly evolving and "slightly wacky" stand up comedy routine and after dinner speaking spot at London and provincial venues and other fun assignments ranging from private party "celebrity guest" appearances to prime time TV Saturday night cameos. Derek reports that he had began to enjoy the less frenetic schedule and finally find time to pursue writing for a book deal he secured late in 2006, but since the real Sven's Manchester City FC appointment was confirmed, the telephone has been red hot once again with enquiries, bookings and interviews for countless national and regional radio stations and many newspaper and magazines from around the country and across the globe.

"Svenalike" admits to a fondness for Manchester having worked there and visited many times over recent years and reports he "was booked by The FA to provide Official Hospitality pre-match entertainment for an England qualifier at err.., "the other famous Manchester club stadium" among other assignments during the run up to FIFA World Cup 2006.

Derek recounts that he had a long standing booking to film a small part in an entertaining new TV game show called "Identity" that is hosted by Donny Osmond (due to commence broadcast on BBC2 later in the summer) and by coincidence, the show is filmed at a Manchester studio, so with his massive collection of England and TheFA wardrobe and props now somewhat redundant, earlier this week Derek decided that he would travel to Manchester at the crack of dawn and do a little shopping at the Eastlands stadium City Fan Shop to bring his "look" up to date. Upon arrival at Eastlands, freelance professional photographer Dave Evans was on hand to catch the chaos caused by Sven's double as he shopped and toured the stadium being mobbed by fans and causing much confusion to the startled security staff and other Man City personnel.
Having revealed his true identity, Derek returned to character, quipping: "Well.., err, Nancy had.., err, hoped to follow me to Eastlands to hand out signed copies of her book......, but I finally managed to shake her off on the M52..."

Derek is the first to admit that his appearance has lead to an amazing and surprising whirlwind of "celebrity status" over the past few years since his resemblance to the ex-England head coach completely destroyed his public anonymity and he has also been thrilled to be teamed up with so many top star names and many of his own personal football heroes and legends including members of England squads past and present and most recently since his visit to Manchester last week he was privileged to provide the after dinner entertainment at a charity fund raising event in aid of The Disabilities Trust hosted by the one and only football legend Mr Jimmy Hill OBE.

Asked if being a "lookalike" carried any down side, Derek said that the initial shock of becoming the object of public scrutiny took a little getting used to and it was true that the whole lookalike concept was generally held in low regard by the media due to the many look-a-bit-a-likes around, but there are about 50 real "dead ringers" who are now close friends and have risen to the top of the profession to form a close knit community that is much sought after by clients who's budget won't stretch to hiring the real thing. "It's a bizarre quirk of nature that has propelled me into endless situations and events that have been amazing and unique experiences that I would otherwise never know."

Having mainly concentrated on his stand up comedy and after dinner entertainment spot at London and Southern venues during the past year while the real Sven has been out of the UK news, the entertaining Sven double is hoping that he will once again be touring more widely and is especially looking forward to meeting more of the good folk of Manchester if his appearance and comedy doesn't result in too much of a shock to their system and local venues and events have a need for "Svennis" or any of the entertaining double acts he has formed with "Nancy", "Becks" and other professional impersonators.

Adopting his "Sven" persona once again, Derek said. "Well..,err., it is good to be back working more regularly once again but I cannot help but make some comparisons...
David Beckham gets a £128 million contract, the West Coast sunshine in L.A., the Hollywood life style and a beautiful spice girl.....
Svennis gets a pay cut, the drizzly North West, a location some Mancunians call "The Wastelands" and Nancy Delusional..... ....But Derek (and probably Sven?) couldn't be more delighted!

Asked for any comments on England's prospects, with a far more serious tone Derek said, "It's been open season for Sven in some quarters of the media since 2003, but in my experience he's always been appreciated by most of the public. He only ever lost 5 competitive matches and England was ranked FIFA No.4 during the last World Cup. We are now Ranked at No.13 and still dropping. There's no certainty that we will even qualify for Euro 2008 having cruised to top place in the last three tournaments, so maybe those in the media who seemed to have a bloodlust for Sven may also prove to have had a "death wish" for our National team?" Fortunately Sven’s wide based public popularity has become more widely understood by those few media hacks who continually tried to propagate (create?) ideas of unpopularity and now the realise that they were actually flying in the face of the majority of the fans abiding affection and respect, the enigmatic and dignified Swedish football maestro will be left to get on with what he does so well?

I very much hope that you find the rest of my site interesting and entertaining and would be pleased to receive any feed back from you.
